by George Pastakas
oil and ink on silk
85 x 39 cm
This work comes from a series inspired by the poetry of Constantine Cavafy, that the artist created in reference to love and the constant struggle of man with this feeling, as expressed in Cavafy's poetry. The intensity of those feelings are expressed by both strong lines and the fast application of color, giving a result of intense emotions and lyricism.
He was born in Florina in 1956 and studied painting at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in London, UK. He has participated in numerous exhibitions around the world and his work can be found in public and private collections.
Reference to his work can be found in the Dictionary of Greek Artists. He works and lives in Athens. He has collaborated with Hellenic Olympic Committee, Greek Ministry of Culture and Piraeus Bank Cultural Foundation among others, and his work has been presented globally.
Pastakas’ work is mainly anthropocentric and always interwoven with the web of history. In all his exhibitions that took place either abroad, such as in Paris, Brussels and Stuttgart, or in Greece, the main theme was always based on the historical element.
