The Hellenic Olympic Committee commissioned George Pastakas to create works for the Lighting Ceremony of the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona. He created a series of abstract forms in motion, which were used to frame the main works.
The High Priestesses series arose after a systematic study of painting on ancient vessels. The figures, elongated and with a characteristic expressive breast, a source of femininity and life, are attributed to a ritualistic dance.
