Melina Fakitsa Mosland
Melina Fakitsa Mosland is Greek-Norwegian visual artist based in Athens. She holds an Integrated Masters degree from the Athens School of Fine Arts.
In 2019 she was selected to take part in Platform Nord (Nordic Festival for Young Contemporary Art) in Kristiansand, Norway. She exhibited her first solo project, ‘Bloom in Progress’, in 2019 at Taf - the Art Foundation and has participated in numerous group exhibitions. Among them: ‘Gardening’ at Zoumboulakis Gallery , ‘A field guide to getting lost vol 2’ at Cinema Anesis, ‘Graduand exhibition of ASFA’ at StoArt of National Bank Insurance and ‘Contemporary Mosaics’ at The Other Arcadia Foundation of Sotiris Felios Collection. Recently she was awarded as one of the three finalists for RUYA MAPS ‘Spirit’ about the city of Athens as part of the Creative Cities project.
Her work is constructed around the themes of the human body and the feeling of ‘Uncanny’, while also exploring our connection with the natural world through hybrid forms. She works in a variety of media depending on the needs of each concept, often sculpture, drawing and more recently installation and photography. In her work she plays with contrasts both in materials and in meanings. Her pieces are dreamy and at the same time surrealistically dark, grotesque but with a humorous touch, using contemporary art practices mixed with traditional ones. Her inspiration is drawn from contemporary culture today, nature, mythology and documentaries.
